Workstreams

noslegal 2025 - 2026

These workstreams are doing substantial work in Q4 of 2025. We will then assess drafts and next steps in January 2026 with a view to finalisation in Q2 of 2026.

To be consulted or become involved more actively, please contact the relevant workstream leads!

1. Legal work types / laws

Work types and Laws are of central importance but also some of most difficult facets as local conceptualisations vary so much. In v3 (March 2025) we have reached a certain level of maturity but this workstream is to consult on further developments with law firms and legal departments.

In this group we will also look at Roles (e.g. buyer/seller, claimant / defendant) start to build out further process types within Work elements.

We’ll also take the lead on coordinating updates to the Taxonomy guide and 2026 release notes.

2. Places

Places is one of our oldest and most mature facets.

It is based around the public ISO 3166-2 country and subdivision codes but enriched with legally relevant information including the treaties and international organisations to which jurisdictions belong. This information changes incrementally.

For the 2025 Q1 v3 release we documented in detail the process for updating. This group’s task is now to update Places in 2026 Q1.

3. In-house needs

Our existing standards were built primarily with law firm input. In-house legal and related (e.g. compliance, regulatory) professionals have some additional, equally important perspectives.

This group will help to ensure that these perspectives are effectively brought to bear in developing various aspects of the noslegal taxonomy in our 2025 - 26 round of work.

4. Short stories

There is considerable uncertainty and speculation about the future of law at the moment.

Rather than seeking to predict what will happen, this group will seek to explore ideas via creative mediums such as short stories to be written by group members and discussed within the group.

We may publish them (on open access terms) if each author is happy with this, either under real names or pseudonyms.
